Wellbeing, Community, and the Future of Biomedical Science

Thereโs no doubt weโre at a critical moment in sustaining the biomedical workforce. Many ideas are being sharedโsome familiar, some freshโabout how to attract and retain physician-scientists.
While no one is surprised to hear the words ๐ง๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, ๐ง๐ช๐ด๐ค๐ข๐ญ, and ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ณ๐ด๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ด repeated throughout the day, what has struck me is how often Iโve also heard the words ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐บ, and ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ด๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต.
This resonates deeply. Through my work with MOMENTUM at Pitt and my MotherMind leadership development and group coaching program, I have seen firsthand how supporting scientists beyond the lab and clinicโtoward wellbeing, professional fulfillment, and belongingโcan powerfully influence retention and success.
๐ If youโre also thinking about how we sustain and support the next generation of physician (and non-physician) scientists, Iโd love to connect and continue the conversation.
