What’s your Unicorn Space?

Eve Rodsky describes it as the time you carve out for pursuits that spark creativity and joy—the parts of yourself beyond work and family. In my leadership development and group coaching programs for Scientist Mothers, we talk about it often, and I admit I usually roll my eyes a little at the cheesiness of the term... 🧀

But for Scientist Mothers, finding that space is anything but easy. Between research, caregiving, and all the in-betweens, making time just for ourselves can feel impossible. And yet, when we do, it can be profoundly restorative—renewing energy, perspective, and purpose.

Earlier this week, as I excitedly headed to my first community choir rehearsal of the season (one of my own Unicorn Spaces), this rainbow appeared across the sky. Maybe "unicorn space" is not so cheesy after all. 😉🌈🦄

✨ So I’ll ask again: What’s your Unicorn Space?
Or, if making time for joy feels completely out of reach right now, consider this an invitation to explore what might be possible.
