When willpower isn’t enough, borrow accountability.
How’s your first week back going?
Mine felt like drinking from a fire hose. And if I’m honest, about 75% of my post-break renewal and fresh-start energy went straight out the window along with the ~50 emails I had to respond to on Monday morning.
Which is how I found myself snapping a pic of my latte at 4:59 a.m. Tuesday morning. ☕
Here’s the thing: I know what works for me. One of those things is starting my workday early—before my 2-year-old wakes up—so I can get a head start and still protect time later for my 4 p.m. workouts and other wellbeing practices.
Also true: when my alarm goes off, I’m only about 50% accountable to that plan. ⏰👎
So on Monday night, knowing I needed backup, I posted inside The MotherMind Network that I’d be at my desk by 5 a.m. and would post a photo of my delicious miso maple latte (you should try it! 😋) as proof.
Call it a peer-pressure hack.
It worked.
I absolutely WOULD NOT have gotten up with my alarm that morning if I hadn’t made it public.
Which brings me to a few more things I’m saying out loud (again, for accountability):
• I’m committing to more consistently turning on my email blocker during deep work so I don’t default to the easy thing (checking email) every time the work feels hard or boring for a hot second
• I’m extending the hours of my social media blocker. I've been using it to avoid bedtime doom scrolling but I know I need it during the day too...
(Noticing a theme here? Apparently, my 2026 strategies are outsourcing willpower and blocking out the noise. I'm good with that!)
If there’s a habit or experiment you know would help—but you’re struggling with follow-through—consider borrowing some accountability. Say it out loud. Ask for witnesses. Build in a little friendly peer pressure.
